Sexual Assault in Brandon

Brandon Police are continuing to investigate a sexual assault that happened in the city on Friday night. Police say around 9 o'clock a woman was grabbed by a man while walking in the 23 hundred block of Ottawa Avenue. The woman was approached from behind and grabbed by the unknown man. She was able to flee and call the police. The man is described as caucasian, in his late twenties, with a slim build and was wearing all black including a black hoody with the hood pulled up. The suspect was about five foot 8 inches tall and had facial hair. If anyone has any information regarding this assault contact Brandon Police at 729-2345.

St. Pierre Jolys RCMP Looking for Missing Girl

St. Pierre Jolys RCMP are looking for a missing 15 year old girl.

Jay-Lynn McIvor was reported missing on January 31st.

She's 5'7, 122 pounds.

She has brown hair and eyes.

Contact your local RCMP detachment if you have any information.

Major Drug Raid Done, 13 Arrested

The Manitoba Organized Crime Task Force completed a major operation Friday.

Project Deplete was done with the help of Brandon and Winnipeg police along with the RCMP.

13 people were arrested and over one million dollars in drugs were seized including cocaine, MDMA and ecstasy.

The long-term investigation was started in August of 2011.

Errol Black Park Unveiled

A dedication ceremony was held in Brandon Friday afternoon to officially unveil Errol Black Park.

The land is located on First Street and Rosser Avenue.

Errol's son Sean says he hopes residents can use the park for inspiration.

Councillor Len Isleifson says the land is appropriately named.

RCMP Look For Missing Portage Girl



Portage RCMP are asking for your help in locating 15 year old Shayna-Leigh Tacan.

She was last seen at Portage Collegiate Institute at 2 oclock on Wednesday afternoon.

Tacan is described as 5 foot 8 and about 180 pounds.

She has red hair, brown eyes and a medium build.

If you have any info you're asked to contact your local RCMP detachment or Crimestoppers.

Budget Input Sought

It's another chance to let the Mayor and council know how you feel about the Brandon city budget.
A public forum will be held Monday afternoon starting at
5 o'clock at city hall.
The budget calls for double digit increases for homeowners.
Mayor Shari Decter Hirst says a lot of residents have already expressed their concerns and this meeting will give everyone a chance to do it in public

Shari Decter Hirst will be at Humpty's Family Restaurant at 1525 18th street ( across from the Shoppers Mall)

More Canadians Looking For Work



The unemployment rate in the province remained unchanged at 5.4 percent last month.

Nationally, that number rose a 10th of a percentage point to 7.6.

Only 2,300 jobs were added while more then 23,000 people were looking for work.

Employment increased in industries such as the education and recreation sectors.

It decreased in the professional, scientific and technical services industries.

Residents Come For Tea, Honour Queen

The Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba was full Thursday afternoon, playing host to a Come and Go Tea.

Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba Philip Lee greeted guests who wanted to help celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.

Harvey Hurren attended the tea and says it's an important event to honour.
